A different kind of incomplete
Most gaps in this archive come from time and accident — water damage, torn pages, a name that was simply never written down. CF-004 and CF-014 are gapped differently. Someone with the standing to preserve the whole record chose, deliberately, to preserve only part of it. That is not a flaw in the material. It is part of what the material documents.
On the institution involved
Later documentation, outside the scope of this register, identifies an individual within the relevant institution who appears repeatedly at the edges of both recovered documents — present when material goes missing, present when questions stop being asked. He is not named here. His motives are not characterized here. The archive records patterns of access, not intentions.
002 · Relationship Between CF-004 and CF-014
Shared trait
Both documents describe something witnessed, and both explicitly decline to name or define it. Centuries apart, no known contact between the two subjects, the same refusal appears in both.
Shared cost
Both subjects lose something in the act of preservation — CF-004's subject loses her name to erasure; CF-014's subject loses two decades to a question he concludes was likely the wrong one.
Not resolved
Whether these are the same phenomenon recurring, two unrelated events interpreted through similar language, or a single tradition of refusal passed down independent of any underlying event at all.
003 · A Note on What Is Not Catalogued Here
A recovered photograph associated with this thread shows three figures where at least one other source implies four were present. The archive does not resolve who, or what, occupies the uncounted space. Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence — a missing figure is not a closed question.
004 · Archivist's Closing Note
This register does not conclude that CF-004 and CF-014 describe the same thing. It concludes only that the same refusal to define it recurs across an unusual distance, and that someone has, at more than one point in this thread's history, worked to keep that refusal from being examined too closely. The suppression is part of the record now. It does not resolve what was suppressed.
